Looookie…Pretty!

Tuesday, July 1, 2008  12:40 p.m.

After some consideration, I decided to change the appearance of the site.  The old theme seemed somewhat depressing and I am liking my new header image a lot.  A LOT.  It came from www.you-are-beautiful.com, which is a completely awesome website that I suggest you visit.  You can order free stickers there, view really cool and inspiring existing pics of “you are beautiful,” and even submit your own entries.

You-Are-Beautiful statement:

You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture. The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We’re just attempting to make the world a little better.
Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. We work extremely hard that this message is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more.Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism.

You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message.

Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization.

Any thoughts or comments on the new design would be appreciated!

  2. The picture has a bit sarcasm to it, but then beauty is always in the eye of the holder. I do happen to be a old building nut, and if I would actually show a picture or two of an oustanding old building. To me that is real beauty, and I do not need a sign to tell me that. Occaionally I will visit one of the old Shaker colonies. When you walk into one of their buildings, you almost feel a sense of soothing. You can get a similar feeling from some Arts & Crafts style buildings.

Now I would say that you take that slogan “You Are Beautiful”, and you take it to the next level and you try to create beauty in your life. By this I do not mean that you become an artist. Why not use your life as your art form. You go out and you create a new life. You then try to make beauty a constant part of your life. Part of this will involve taking care of yourself. I find that a morning shower, a clean shave when I need it, and some clean clothes can give a real pick me up. Those little actions have added some beauty to my life. Cutting your lawn or getting your car washed does a similar thing. It makes me feel good about myself. I believe that all of those little activities add some beauty to my life.

I happen to be a pen freak. I like buying pens and mechanical pencils. I do not go out and buy expensive ones. An example would be the old Papermate pens with the plastic body and metal top. They were not very expensive, perhaps $3 or $4, and they made me feel good. If I write with a nice pen I find that I feel better than when I use a cheap pen. I do not have hundreds of pens and mechanical pencils, I may have a couple dozen of each, but when I use them I feel good. Using a nice pen has added a bit of beauty to my life, and it did not cost me a lot of money.

What I am getting at is that many of the mundame things in our daily life are adding some beauty to it. When you are surrounded by beauty you then will start to feel that you are beautiful.

  3. Perhaps tomorrow or the next I will be able to put together a few lines as to why I chose that particular picture, and even why I chose a “you-are-beautiful” picture at all. There is a method to my madness.

Absolutely no sarcasm intended in the new layout for MPB(that would be…My Precious Blog).

  4. I understood a hella lot more, because I actually went to the you-are-beautiful website. Not a lot there, but I can see how it is meaningful. I’m glad I took time to view it, because it explained a lot.

Sort of a “pay it forward” sort of thang. And I truly love that idea. …XOXO
